  • Francis Rodrigues and his Toronto crew set another attendance record!!

Yesterday, the Chess'n Math Association (CMA) held the first of 3 Grand Prix Chess Tournaments for kids, attracting 255 players!!! The Grand Prix has been a fixture in Toronto since 1993 we opened in 1993...20 years ago but we have never come even close to these numbers. Since Francis took over the Toronto branch of the CMA in 2010, numbers keep going up!

    FALL TORONTO GRAND PRIX:

    2013: 255 players!

    2012: 196 players
    2011: 160 players
    2010: 140 players
    2009: 98 players
    2008: 116 players
    2007: 132 players
    2006: 146 players
    2005: 123 players
    2004: 154 players
    2003: 118 players

Congratulations to all involved in making the event a huge success!

Really imressive numbers! Further progress will be limited by the total number of 6-14 years old kids in GTA (around 800.000).

Seriously speaking, I would like CMA to at least consider changing biggest tournaments (Grand Prix, OCC) to 6 rounds. 70 players/section and only 5 rounds...

          Congratulations Francis and team.

Larry, I hope you can afford to keep him when his contract comes up for renegotiation. :)

For those who haven't seen it, there's an interview with Francis in the October CCN.
