  • Who will challenge Carlsen?

Now the Magnus has taken the throne, who will be his main contenders during his reign? There are the usual suspects: obviously, Anand will seek another run at the title and cannot be counted out and the same can be said for Kramnik who remains a formidable opponent and but for a tiebreak could have replaced Carlsen in the WCC.
But what about the relatively new faces on the scene. The New York Times has published an interesting rundown at http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/08/cr....html?src=recg

Nice article, and thanks to Gordon for pointing out the link.

Now, here is a trivia question: Which Canadian GM has beaten World Champion Magnus Carlsen in a tournament game? :)

Aronian. He is the thrid best player in history. I'm surprised he's never been the challenger.

          Hugh, that is the one!

The answer is: GM Mark Bluvshtein!! :) I think Mark, then 14, was an IM then, and Carlsen, still age 11, was either an IM or would become one shortly after.
