Canada has 2 players with 5/6: Luke Pulfer (1612 FIDE) in the U10 group, and Kevin Low (ur FIDE) in the U08 group. Both groups still have players with 6/6.
    At 4.5/6: Qiyu Zhou (1979 - U14 w) and Issani Ameer (ur - U08).

Hugh, see that you are visiting the fb blog "Chess In BC" - https://www.facebook.com/groups/284279694928005/. They have one of the best coverage on WYCC BC players. Of cause, we also have the official Canada Team blog.

Anyone know of any other site(s) that follows WYCC Canada Team closely?

Does anyone know the details of the round 6 games?
It seems that Zhou Qiyu's game was drawn in what looks a clear win for her (Houdini gives her -3.47 as Black).
And also Harmony Zhu played on many moves past hopeless and until checkmate.
And there is no mention of this on the official team blog - nor any other comments on the team's progress but many nice pics of the team sweater?!

Glad to hear that Qiyu won - but ChessBomb still posts her game as drawn at move 40. But still no insight why Harmony would play on to mate - she's much too strong for that!

Round 7 - the two 5-pointers drew, so they now have 5.5. Nameer won, so he also has 5.5. Qiyu Zhou drew - giving her 5/7.

"the two 5-pointers" who drew are none other than CM Kevin Low (U8 Open section) and Luke Pulfer (U10 Open section).

After 7 rounds of play, Kevin is the only Canadian player who is undefeated. This is Kevin's first appearance at the WYCC, but has had success in other international events. Most recently, winning third place at the 2013 North American Youth Chess Championship presented by The Chess 'N Math Association in Toronto, August 2013.

Luke is the 2013 Canadian Under 10 National Champion and has also represented Canada previously at the 2011 WYCC in Brazil. As amazing as his chess skills are, he is also an exceptional soccer player.

Luke and Kevin are excellent ambassadors of Canadian and BC chess -- both players have also been on Team BC for the Canadian Chess Challenge and at the annual BC vs. WA Team Match. They come from very supportive and loving families, who have helped many others in the BC Chess Community.

Good luck to CM Kevin Low, Luke Pulfer, and the rest of Team Canada at WYCC 2013!

Yes - I had referred to the "5-pointers" by name, section, and rating in a previous posting.

Nameer Issani won again today to move into a 7-way tie for 2nd in the U8 Open with 6.5/8, a full point and a half behind the sole leader, the #4 seed from India, Ramesh Babu Praggnanandhaa, who has a perfect 8/8.

Two other Canadians have 6/8. Harmony Zhu escaped with a 'swindle' win (down a Queen for a Rook) to reach her 6/8, good enough for joint 4th at the moment. Three girls have 7/8, oddly enough the #82, 85, & 111 seeds. The #3 seed is the only girl at 6.5 while the #1 seed joins Harmony et al a full point off the lead.

Mailli-Jade Ouellet is also at 6/8 in the U12 Girls. Results haven't been updated at the WYCC site so I'm not sure where that places Mailli-Jade but she's still definitely in the hunt for a possible medal.

Maili-Jade is tied for 7th (with 3 others). There are three with 7/8, and three with 6.5/8.
