Sharing a link of a short (10min) documentary about an arbiter/master/honoraryGM Vladas Mikenas. The candidates match Smyslov-Kasparov was held in Vilnius almost 30 years ago under V.Mikenas supervision. The video brings back those days emphasizing on V.M. There is a moment when VM visited Tallinn and gave a respect to P.Keres too.

    Re: 30 years ago

When I was a teenager and in my twenties my mother who was born and grew up in Lithuania was not happy that I played chess (so we never talked about it).
My first conversation with her about chess came at the kitchen table when she was about 70. I told her about playing GM Rozentalis the number one Lithuanian player. She then said she thought Mikenas was Lithuania's all time great player. When she was a little girl Mikenas was known everywhere in Lithuania. That was the 1930's and it struck me as very funny that she remembered that. I will have to print off the article and ask her if she can read it (she how good her memory is at age 90!).
