    Hi Guys,

I have new announcements to make :

    1. Mississauga Chess Club will be the official organizer and they will provide all the chess sets/clocks/scoring sheets. Refreshments will be provided. Thanks To Paul Roschman who make this possible.
    2. Cost of the tournaments will be reduced significantly due to the above and other than minimal TD fees and CFC rating fees, balance entry fees will be given out as prize $$$. There should be an attractive prize funds.
    3. Class section prize may be given out example best U-2000 players in open section and best 1200 player in U-1600 section.
    4. Entries are trickling in now and I will post the pre-registered list later. We have a FM and a NM already registered. Pretty impressive list - those who wants to have a game with them, do register early.

      New Updates

      1. Canada top junior player Razvan Preotu ( FM ) will be playing in this tournament. He achieved an IM norm last Dec. Joining the list as well is top junior Adam Cormier ( NM ).
      2. Rising star Nicholas Vettese who has beaten a few Masters at the Saturday rapids will be joining as well. Those who wants to have a go at them, do please register earlier. We need to have a rough estimate of the number of players to ensure the tournament is run well.
3.Entry fee of $ 25 for 4 rounds ( equivalent to $ 6 per game ) is relatively cheap compared to 2 days weekend tournament where you have to fork out at least $ 40 and above to play. The games will be CFC regular rated. ( not active ). To have a chance to play the masters is not a daily happening and also at the same time a shot at the prizes as well.
      4. You only need to pre-register and e mail to me and on that day bring yourself and the entry fees of $ 25 only. The rest is provided (Lunch not provided though ). Those whose CFC membership has expired can pay there.
      5. Pre-register list will be provided soon

          Hi Cheney,

Thanks for your nice words. Mississauga chess club is the biggest chess club in Canada ( I believe with about 300 members or more ) and we feel it is right to have a CFC rated tournament for the youngster and adults on a regular basis. This hopefully will be a springboard for the juniors to reach the next level. We are thinking of April 6 as the second tournament and hopefully there is a good crowd in the maiden debut in 2 weeks time. Mississauga chess club has fantastic facilities at the U of T ( Mississauga campus ) and is one of the best run chess club in Canada

We have about 15 players registered now and I will post them after the Hart House tournament this weekend.

          Cheers !

                        Re: Missisauga March Standard

3 more players just joined and two of them are rising juniors Hairan Liang from Scarborough chess club and Tamir Landa from Senecahill chess club. The other one veteran from Mississauga Jose Cabioc.

We have reached our target of 30 with 5 days to go.

Let them keep coming. Prize funds will be at least $600 or more currently. If we can reach 40, maybe we will have 4 prizes in each section with the top three and a class prize.

                          Hi Gary, Ferdinand,

CMA has OCC Qualifiers on the April 5-6 weekend!

April 5: French OCC Qualifier - Ecole Ste. Madeleine.
April 6: Final OCC Qualifier - Marshall McLuhan SS.

We would appreciate your re-scheduling your proposed
April 6 Mississauga standard, possibly by a week either way.

                          Just FYI -
March 23: 3rd OCC Qualifier - Marshall McLuhan SS.

Sat/Sun April 12-13 sounds perfect - even though CMA stages
it's Provincials that Sunday, all participants are qualifiers,
which gives you the opportunity to stage a bonus event for
all those juniors around who didn't make it to our Provincials!

                          Francis.

Thanks for highlighting the conflict. We will take note of it. I will discuss with Paul Roschman tonight and come to a decision.

I noticed that there is a OCC qualifier at Mississauga on March 9. That is certainly a good development for chess in Mississauga.

Cheers and let's work for the betterment of chess in Canada.

Gary, thanks for mentioning the Mississauga OCC Qualifier. This was organized quickly to replace a cancelled event in Brampton. I sent the info to Francis just yesterday, so hopefully it will show up on the CMA calendar today. :)

We are also planning 2 more events at our Mississauga site:
April 27 - Mississauga CYCC Qualifier
May 25 - Ontario Girls Chess Championships

I hope to have those announcements out today.
