  • Does your club have a Farm League?

Are you doing anything to find new members for your club?
There’s a good way to do it – using the internet. It is not hard to find special interest groups using your computer. For chess, try chess.com where thousands are playing every day.
I find 'meetup groups' to be useful. Go to meetups, list your special interest (say chess) and then give your nearest city or town. You may then see a number of those that share your interest. If there is not such a meetup in your area, then it is a simple matter to form one.

I have by example, a Toronto meetup group for chess which I see as a farm league for the more serious tournament play. In this case, the meetup focuses on casual friendly games, but should someone appear too strong for such chess, then it is a simple matter to invite them to join the Saturday Rapid tournament where they can show their mettle.
Visit this chess meetup, if you like any Wednesday – they are mostly players in the 1400 – 1800 range. >>>>>http://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Chess/

Our most recent meetup at the Toronto Coffee & Tea House was a great success with some dozen keen chessplayers dueling with their pawns (and Queens –they love to attack with their queens!)
The strong turnout, I attribute to the early start of registrations which precipitated an avalanche of sign-ins. So let’s try to repeat our success. Please go to >>>>>>

and RSVP – YES for next week’s meet.
Oh, and by the way, we expect the musical accompaniment to be enhanced next week with some new instruments and vocals – so if you have a friend who might enjoy some live music, please bring them along!
