Hamilton Summer Open - Hotels and Bus

      Hotels

For some reason hotels are getting booked fairly fast for the Aug 23-24 weekend. So if you need to stay overnight in the Hamilton area I recommend you book soon!

      Motel 6
      $76.00
      4345 North Service Road Burlington
      1-866-295-5578

      Super 8 Mt Hope
      $86.00
2975 Homestead Drive, Mount Hope, ON
      1-866-295-5816

      Days Inn Hamilton
      $95.00
210 Main Street East, Hamilton, ON
      1-866-295-9117

      Comfort Inn Hamilton
      $120.00
183 Centennial Pky N, Hamilton ON
      1-866-299-2488

      Staybridge Suites Hamilton Downtown
      $162.00
20 Caroline St S, Hamilton ON
      1-866-296-8217

ca.kayak.com seemed to do the best job at searching for a wide variety of hotel rates in the Hamilton area.

Taking the bus from Hamilton Go Station To Emmanuel United Church:

      -Walk to James and Hunter
      -Catch Bus 22 "Upper Ottawa"
-Go to Upper Ottawa and Reno
-Walk to 871 Upper Ottawa (It looks like a big church..)
-If you catch the bus at 8:21 Saturday morning, it should take about 19 minutes

Using google maps you would be going from:

Hamilton GO Centre At Hunter St, 36 Hunter St E, Hamilton, ON L8N 3W1, Canada
      to
871 Upper Ottawa St, Hamilton, ON L8T 3V4, Canada)

      Driving
-Cross the Skyway bridge and then take the Red Hill Expressway.
      -Take the Dartnall Road exit
      -Turn Right on StoneChurch
      -Turn Right on Upper Ottawa

We are still deciding whether or not to have the event FIDE rated. What is your preference? Also, anyone who has an opinion on this should state their preference.

Try create a poll and I would think most people especially top juniors would want it to be FIDE rated. If most of the tournaments are not FIDE rated for the top sections, then this will create a lot of under rated FIDE rated players ( their CFC rating very high compared to their FIDE rating ). Not that I qualify for the top sections !!! This is more for juniors

I would like it to be FIDE rated, in fact for future reference I will always prefer a tournament to be FIDE rated rather than not.

Is it necessary to bring a chess set and a chess clock?
Does chesshamilton@gmail.com work? I didn't get any reply yet.

I have decided the FIDE rate the top section...however I am not sure we will continue this after this event. This doesn't always seem to be an attractive feature to top players for some reason. (But top players, please let me know if you feel otherwise).
