  • Chess players need a place to play

Part of the success of the Saturday Rapid is due to having a source of new players. We have what I call our ‘Farm League’ which is an informal gathering of chess players meeting for friendly games. It is all part of an international concept which matches up people with a similar interest and in the same geographical region.
The chess meetup which serves as our source of mostly B class players meets at a chess café at Bloor and Lansdowne. Every week, I set a meet time of Wednesday for the players to get together and play. There are some 400 occasional members who are notified as soon as a total of three people sign up to come on a particular day.
The system is a constant source of new chess players. Here is the site >>>>>

Now there is a new group forming to the west of Toronto which will likely be a good source of players for an enterprising club in that region. All they need is a place to play and anyone is free to suggest a locale. >>>>>>
