I owe a lot to Jonathan.

He hired me as a director in Mazatlan, Mexico for the World Rapid Championship in the late 1980's. I was an arbiter with him at the 1984 (or was that 1982 :) Olympics in Greece. In Canada, I always called on him when I had a TD issue (Montreal calling the Nanaimo...are you there Jonathan :) and he was always there for me. Last year the CMA hired him to direct the 25th Annual Canadian Chess Challenge in Ottawa...he was the director of the first event in 1989...25 years later...it was only fitting to have him back! It was great to see him again.

Yes Jonathan, this award is well deserved...congratulations!

I zoomed in on the pic and it does indeed have Jon Berry's name on it, so it was indeed Hal accepting it on Jon's behalf.

Richly deserved recognition for Canada's chess Leonardo Da Vinci! Congratulations, Jonathan!

Yes, an incredible testament to Jonathan's legacy. During this fortnight, I also heard good things said from oldtimers from other countries regarding John Prentice (sp?), whom I have never met. Feeling quite proud to be Canadian! :)
