  • Does anyone know how Peter Biyiasis went blind?

I am instructing a blind gentleman from Princeton on how to play chess using notation, he lost his sight in the last few years. The name Peter Biyiasis came up and I recalled that he had largely lost his sight later in life. Does anyone know how he went blind or if he played any chess at all after that? I know he played 100 plus speed games against Fischer in the early 80's and didn't win one game! Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Here's a near 5-year-old post from Brian Wall that states Peter had to give up tournament chess because of his vision problems.

Ok, that's the same issue my blind friend has. Both his parents had RPG so it was genetic. He has a blind set he plays on and I'm teaching him notation. I know there is an international blind chess federation, I remember Canada played them at least one year at the Olympiad and they were quite strong. Thanks for the info guys!
