  • Canadian Open 09 side events

I posted a preliminary side events schedule.
It includes a lecture by GM Alexei Shirov and a simul by GM Michael Adams.

Although there's lots to see for tourists, many chess players like to hang around the chess site and the side events are a great feature. To try to fill things, could have a different event every day:
Could add a Fischer random chess/ chess 960 speed tournament
    demo of blindfold chess
    demo of kriespiel chess
    sacrifice/suicide chess tournament
    round-robin speed chess tournament
    tandom chess (players alternate moves)
team speed chess tournament, such as Calgary players versus Edmonton players
    Gm versus computer game
    etc.

      Vlad,

The reason I loved this tournament so much in 2005 was because of the quality and quantity of side events you put on. Im sure it will be just as impressive this time around =]

Will we see another simul on board the pirate ship in West Edmonton Mall? :)

I am glad that you guys are interested in the side events. This is just to give you a rough idea of what's coming as there will be more events.

As to the boat, in 2005 Bruce Thomas organized that, and I am still not sure if he will be doing something similar this time around.
