  • How will the CAN team do at the Olympiad?

I was thinking about a possible poll for/about the Olympiad, and decided that it could be: how well the CAN team would play against stronger teams (RtgAvg wise).

chess-results webpage http://www.chess-results.com/tnr140380.aspx?lan=1 . CAN is listed at 37 at this moment.

Total number of rounds 11, though the poll allows only 10 choices (it should be enough, as R1 should be against a weaker team).

The poll will be not anonymous. The oracles must be known to public :)

The poll will be open 9 days.

    Shouldn't that read "teams"?

Without knowing the board order it's hard to analyze.

What's the board order? When will it be decided?

V.Plotkin, a captain, wrote (somewhere at chesstalks) that the order would be decided after the Canadian Open.

I wrote a team and meant a "National team". As for a Women's team - I'll leave to somebody else do polls and threads.

I am sure we will do better than last time. Anton is a huge gain for the team, Eric is way better than last time, Bator will have a easier and more successful mission on board 2 and 3, Leonid is GM strength under IM camouflage and Aman is so talented!

Is there a place where I can bet money that our team will do better than the starting position?

Dug out a V.Plotkin's comment ( http://www.chesstalk.info/forum/show...ll=1#post83382 ) "Board order = rating order is a very likely scenario in our case. We'll have time to discuss this issue with the players during Canadian Open."

Ok. This would be considered a very successful result. - Beat all 4 of the lower ranked teams we play and score 3 wins, one draw, and 3 losses against higher rated teams we play.

That should put us around 12-15 (on tie-break)

In the last Olympiad teams with 7=1-3 or 15 points shared 9-18 places ( http://www.chess-results.com/tnr77681.aspx?lan=1 )

                        Our performance in 2012:

Against higher rated teams: 1 win (Kazakhstan), 1 draw (Argentina), 4 losses.

Against lower rated teams: 4 wins, 1 draw (Albania).

3 wins vs higher-rated teams is an absolutely fantastic performance.

Probably will get to play 5 to 6 high rated teams... 2 wins will be nice.

Round Two brings on our first challenge; while I was expecting we'd get another lower ranked opponent. The ranking is determined by match points and where tied first game points. So we end up against India, #19.

Is this our 1st win against a stronger opponent ??
