It sounds easy...but honestly it take a special kind of person!
First...yes this is a paying job ($30 - $50 per lesson - approximately 1 hour per lesson) ...we do NOT want volunteers :)
What do we expect from you:
1. You must like kids
2. You must be able to transfer your love of chess to your students...in other words...you are passionate!
3. You are punctual
4. You can control a class (we do not accept more than 14 students in a class)
5. You are organized and attentive to detail.
6. You submit paperwork in a timely fashion.
Comment: One of our best teachers was a fellow rated 1200...he was awesome! Kids loved him and they loved chess! When they got better he transferred them to more experienced teachers. At the end of the day you have to love what you do...this is an opportunity for those who love chess and are capable of transferring this to their students...Alan Simms and Bill Allen (two of my favorite people) did this for decades...and their students remember them...to this day!
Bottom Line: The Chess'n Math Association (established 30 years ago) is starting the Fall session...at the end of September...we need teachers....as we continue to grow.... yep we have over 100 teachers...and we teach over 20,000 youngsters every week during the high season...in Toronto and the GTA...contact Francis 416-486-3395 or toronto@chess-math.org...in Ottawa contact Brad at 613-565-3395 or ottawa@chess-math.org, and in Montreal contact Martine at 514-845-8352 or montreal@chess-math.org. We require that you pass a criminal record check and that you pass an interview with our director. There is also a training program and internship that is required before you can teach.
Availability: This job is excellent for University students (especially those studying in education) and retired folk. Lessons are always at the same time every week. So for example, if you are a University student who has no classes on a Wednesday afternoon for example...then we can book you on a Wednesday afternoon in a school.
