There is no mention of an entry fee - for anyone - for the Qatar event, but you must be 2300+. Reykjavik charges 75 euros for FM/untitled players, but anyone can enter.

I emailed the organizer for the Qatar Masters few days ago and I'm still waiting for his answer. So far Eric Hansen is the only Canadian on the list (ranked 76). The average rating of the 110 GMs is 2609. The average rating for all 159 players registered so far is 2534.
I know that few Canadians played in the 2014 Reykjavik Open. Any tips about where to stay in Reykjavik for this tournament?

We had 5 in our group, so we just rented an apartment using airbnb (https://www.airbnb.ca). Was nice and cheap, had laundry/kitchen facilities and was walking distance from the tournament site... so it worked perfectly for 5 twenty-something year old guys. There were several options available similar to this. If you're looking for a hotel there are several options within walking distance but I can't recommend anything specific.

Thank you Tyler for the info. I used airbnb for the first time at Canadian Open and I was able to rent a nice loft in downtown Montreal, 5 minutes from the playing hall, for much less than a discounted room at Fairmont Hotel.
