    Women’s World Championship 2014

    From the chess-news.ru website:

A brief announcement of only a couple of lines has been published on the World Chess Federation official website:

"FIDE announces that the Women's World Championship 2014, originally scheduled for this October, will be postponed for a few months. Exact dates will be announced soon when FIDE finalizes all organising details with potential sponsors interested to hold this event".

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, let us remind the readers, had already promised that the hosting city of the Women’s World Chess Championship would be "announced soon". Moreover, he had mentioned the concrete date for that announcement, September 6. Yet nothing has been heard on the matter from the FIDE President since then.

The postponement of the championship (at best) puts at risk the whole complex Women's World Championship cycle, because a new world champion among women is normally determined every year. According to this news, it seems we won't be able to greet the new chess Queen in 2014. As for the next year, the title might be fought for even twice, as the match between Hou Yifan (the winner of the Women's Grand Prix) and the winner of the knockout Women's World Championship has been scheduled for October 2015.

Vlad Drkulec: "KI keeps his promises."

Hey Vlad: 3 more years and another $60,000 to go! Good luck! And what do you have to say about the above? Do women not count for you?

I think Vlad is doing a good job so far as CFC president. What have you done for chess in Canada ?

CYCC / WYCC is going great with Vlad's involvement and next will be more norms tournaments coming up. It sure looks good but the only problem seems to be CFC memberships are still quite low

Abu Dhabi Might Host Women's World Championship

            Friday, 26.09.2014

            From chess-news.ru

The situation around the suspended Women's World Championship has become a bit clearer. The tournament can take place in Abu Dhabi, as Kirsan Ilyumzhinov told the Russian ITAR TASS news agency on September 25.

"Abu Dhabi wants to host the Women's Chess Championship - at least, they have sent us the official bid. Prior to that, we had received bids from Moldova and Turkmenistan, and I even went to Moldova to discuss the matters with their Prime Minister as well as the other ministers and chess officials. However, Moldova failed to support the bid with the required money transfer when the time has come," Ilyumzhinov told ITAR TASS.

The FIDE President also said that Russia might bid for the tournament too. "Anyhow, I think the Championship problem will be solved within the next few days," he added.
