Albeit the Ukraine recently lost their #2 FIDE country ranking to China, nonetheless it's still a country with 5 GMs rated above 2700 and another 14 GMs rated above 2600. The Ukrainian Chess Championship is naturally incredibly strong and has surprisingly produced 10 different winners the past 10 years. Oddly enough, the 2 highest rated players, Pavel Eljanov and Vassily Ivanchuk, have never won the Ukrainian Chess Championship, albeit Eljanov is currently joint 1st (despite losing today) in the ongoing 2014 edition with 4/6. Chucky is sitting at 2.5/6 and seemingly sill not going to garner his inaugural Ukrainian Chess Championship unless he can perhaps run the table the last 5 rounds. All games are being carried live at ChessBomb.

Re: Ukrainian Chess Championship
Ukrainian Chess Championship 2014
I do not know of a chess player that I am more sympathetic to than Vassily Ivanchuk. I hoped he will run away with the Ukrainian Championship but I see nothing but missed opportunities.
Here are his games from the 7th and 8th rounds with three to go.

Re: Ukrainian Chess Championship
Four more wins today brings the win rate to an even 50% (30/60). Kuzobov lost to the erstwhile tailender Zubarev and now there's a 3-way tie for 1st heading into the 11th and final round tomorrow.
Kuzobov 6.5
Eljanov 6.5
Ponomariov 6.5
Moiseenko 6
Korobov 6
Zubov 5.5
Ivanchuk 5
Areschenko 5
Kryvoruchko 4
Zubarev 3.5
Kovchan 3
Bogdanovich 2.5
Kuzobov has White against Ponomariov tomorrow while Eljanov gets White againt Zubov. White has been absolutely no advantage through the first 10 rounds with identical 25% win rates.
