Chess Puzzle as a "sport" is apparently an alternative to traditional chess tournaments. While this point is perhaps not crystal clear in the following Texas news item, it's a good read on its own.

A 'Google' search for 'chess puzzle sport' led me to the following link.

I think this is an idea that the Canadian chess community should consider pursuing. Ultimately, I would think the two formats (traditional tournament play and new puzzle tournaments) would complement one another and that the overall quality of our chess players would improve over time. Any thoughts?

FIDE has en entity "The World Federation for Chess Composition" which had has composing and solving competitions for years. GM, IM, and FM titles are awarded in both the composing and solving categories (virtually none outside Europe and the former USSR). Canada has never had a titled individual; very few from the US.
