  • Alberta Closed Final Standings

The 2009 Alberta Closed proved to be the strongest in the provinces history. The games were all hard fought, and out of the 15 games played, only one draw crept into the crosstable. Eric Hansen and Edward Porper both scored 4 points and jointly win the tournament. As Eric defeated Edward in their head to head encounter, he will be named Alberta Champion for 2009. In our meeting after the game both players decided to split the spot in the Canadian Closed and each player will participate, dividing the expense money provided by the ACA.

All games are available online on the ACA website.

Congratulations to both Eric and Edward! I wish you both the best in the upcoming Canadian Closed Chess Championship!:) According to Chessbase 9, the program calculates that Edward had a performance rating of 2508 and Eric had a performance rating of 2516 in the Alberta Closed. With an average elo of 2295 for all the players, Chessbase 9 calculates that this tournament was a category 2 event.
