Hopefully ratings from the latest update (Wednesday April 15) will be used...

In the U2000 section how come players are out of rating order? I thought a whole bunch of people dropped out but there they were much lower on the list.

I've e-mailed Bryan Lamb, TD, with your post. I know the high number of last minute entries on Tuesday gave Brian and Bryan some grief ( good thing there aren't any on-site entries - we wouldn't have got started 'til midnight !! )

I just checked Bryan Lamb's official tournament website, and the pairings are not yet posted. Neither has he sent any to me yet for posting on the discussion boards. I will do so as soon as they send them to me - I'm home this aft., and am regularly checking my e-mails.

A Personal Report

It was a truly classy and great tournament.

USA GM Friedel, and Can. GM Sambuev tied for first - Can. IM Samsonkin defeated USA GM Nakamura. A full report will be coming.

I managed my first draws ever against masters - 2 of them in the Open section - quite satisfied given that I hover usually on either side of 1800.

Brian Fiedler and Bryan Lamb and team have now set the bar pretty high for future large Toronto tournaments. Let's hope this is the start of a trend !!

FIDE rated?

So my crazy friend Vlad Rekhson says to me, "Micah, the Toronto Open isn't FIDE rated".
Of course I scoffed at him, and called him clinically insane, and ignorant (then I thanked him for all his work on the Canadian open).

This victory will boost GM Sambuev's FIDE rating over 2500, and IM Samsonkin will get a big FIDE gain from beating GM Nakamura (2701 FIDE)!

Surely it is FIDE rated... right?

I know of one error in the cross-table. In the last round I got crushed by Jesse Wang - it wasn't a draw as shown. So Jesse has 2 pts., and I have 1 pt.

I used to write on the correspondence chess message board. Same content, different date.

When the CCCA got hard up and started inviting me to play on the correspondence national teams, I started my Gary Fan Club. This I did with flair. All any IM or GM had to do to join my club was lose to me.

Over the years my club has grown. If I ever decide to play OTB again I'm sure players will be falling over themselves to join my club.

I stopped short of rubbing it in and sending them membership cards.
