Youngest to 2700 Wei Yi (breaks Magnus record). He's one tough nut. Plays all 13 rounds of Tata and virtually without a break 3 wins to start Gibraltar!

Re: Wei Yi cracks 2700
Wei Yi absolutely shattered Carlsen's record, Hans. Magnus was 16 years, 7 months, and a day when he first cracked 2700. Wei Yi doesn't even turn 16 until June 2, 2015. I wonder what board he'll be playing for China's 2016 Olympiad team? With Ding Liren (22), Yu Yangli (20), and Wei Yu (15) manning the top 3 boards in some kind of order, I certainly wouldn't bet against China repeating as Olympiad Champions next year.Originally posted by Hans Jung View PostYoungest to 2700 Wei Yi (breaks Magnus record). Re: Wei Yi cracks 2700
With all the inflation, it's not relevant to keep track of records in absolutes. There's almost 50 players with a rating over 2700.
How about the youngest to be in the top 10? Or the youngest to become #1? I doubt Yi will beat Carlsen's record there.

Re: Wei Yi cracks 2700
It depends. If he keeps playing like he has been playing at the Tata Steel Challengers, he'll gain a lot more points. He has a lot of potential. He's very patient at times and yet his attacks can be grinding. For example his game against Potkin in the Tata Steel Challengers. I'll be interested to see what he has to bring to the Masters section next year!Originally posted by Mathieu Cloutier View PostWith all the inflation, it's not relevant to keep track of records in absolutes.
