New Chess League Independent of FIDE
Topalov let the cat out of the bag when he talked about the new league during his Gibraltar Master Class:
“He mentions a non-FIDE package of three tournaments he may play in, in St. Louis, Norway and London. A Grand Prix but independent of FIDE.”
Dagbladet reports that Kasparov is behind a “Chess Golden League”, with super tournaments planned for 2016 in Stavanger, London, St. Louis and Jakarta. Each tournament will feature ten players, with the top nine by rating invited along with one wild card for the organizer.
What could possibly go wrong with this idea? Would non-FIDE events still be FIDE-rated?

It appears the repercussions of the last FIDE election are now beginning to become known. The reaction of FIDE to this news, and especially the rating question in the last sentence of Wayne's post, will be a guideline to what we can anticipate over the next several years. A battle for global control of chess? This would pose difficult questions to regional and national FIDE federations.Only the rushing is heard...
Onward flies the bird.

2. FIDE rating is still valuable. It has a legacy of Fischer, Kasparov, Carlsen achievements. The main difference from FIDE cup is the location, location, location, and probably a larger audience in playing halls :)

The new group, which I will refer to here as the International Chess Association (ICA), will mostly need to be concerned with the ratings question, and later with titles. Most likely they will use the 'Live Ratings' which are now updated daily and are independent of FIDE. So they will have to ensure that 'Live Ratings' remains independent. Since FIDE continues to distance themselves from 'Live R' , this should not be too difficult.
As for the question of the affiliation of national federations, this need not be a problem. The ICA should bypass both FIDE and the National federations by issuing individual memberships - together with photo ID cards with a bar code. Eventually, it should be possible to run local tournaments of ICA members for 'Live R' updates.
Good luck to ICA!
