There are now 68 players registered for the 9th Annual Grand Pacific Open being held in Victoria BC http://grandpacificopen.pbworks.com/...istered%202015
Book your flights, ferries and hotel now for BC's largest chess tournament. There is a great rate of $102 at the Hotel Grand Pacific (the tournament venue). Rooms will be available at that rate until sold out. Last year the hotel was FULLY booked over the GPO weekend. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Great news for US players. The Canadian $ is the lowest it has been for over 5 years. Currently $1.25 Can = $1 US And it is a good time for Canadian players to stay close to home to enjoy the full value of a Canadian dollar.
Victoria is easy to access with direct non stop flights from Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco and more. The Seattle Clipper ferry is a great way to get here from Seattle. The Clipper docks immediately across the street from the Hotel Grand Pacific. And there are ferries every 1- 2 hours from Vancouver. Good public transport from the ferry terminal at Swartz Bay ($2.50 per person) makes Victoria an affordable and beautiful weekend getaway.
And April is peak flower season. Be prepared to have your senses overloaded.
Spend a weekend (or longer) on an island in the Pacific. Everyone else will be here. Why not you?
