Matthias Bluebaum, born in 1997, is currently the highest rated IM in the world, 2576 as of March 1. Fellow German, Alexander Donchenko, born in 1998, is the 2nd highest rated IM on the planet with a 2569 rating. A third young German, Dennis Wagner, also born in 1997, and fresh off his astonishing 3rd place finish at Gibraltar, is the 3rd highest rated IM with a 2549 rating. The Germans could clearly field the strongest IM team in the world (:

Continuing my theme of strong IMs, the #4 ranked IM, Olexandr Bortnyk, from the Ukraine and born in 1996, is rated 2543. What's noteworthy about Olexandr is that he sports a FIDE blitz rating more than 200 points higher, 2764, good enough for #17 in the world, one point higher than #18, Vladimir Kramnik (:

It's a double round day so R4 pairings are now available. Razvan and Qiyu won their R3 games while Kevin lost his game.

                      Re: Cappelle La Grande 2015

Given the vagaries of a Swiss Open, Qiyu Zhou, with a score of 3.0, has surged a 1/2 point ahead of Kevin and Razvan, each with 2.5. However, both Kevin and Razvan play 'down' tomorrow while Qiyu faces Brazilian GM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian, rated 2556, some 374 points higher than Qiyu. While Kevin and Razvan will likely both win tomorrow, Qiyu may need a little assistance from Caissa. Here's hoping Caissa is smiling on our Qiyu tomorrow (:

Romanian GM Gergely Szabo who coaches several Canadian Juniors and who was Captain of the Canadian U16 team that finished #5 at the last U16 Olympiad is on Board 6 tomorrow with the "benefit" of the black pieces versus French GM Tigran Gharamian. The game should be broadcast live.

Szabo's game is the first live (i.e. top 12 boards) game to finish, a 20-move draw.
