  • Chess Book Reviews

One of those little things that make chess enjoyable for me is reading reviews of recently released chess books. Lately, however, it seems harder to find reviews being published on a regular basis. For example, John Watson at TWIC only publishes sporadically and his reviews are often much briefer than the detailed and interesting reviews of years past. Similarly for reviewers like Jeremy Silman and John Donaldson at Silman.com. ChessCafe has been a source of good reviews over the years but now a membership is required to access the site. Are there others out there who enjoy chess book reviews? Where do you go nowadays to find good reviews?

Dennis Monokroussos often reviews books at his 'The Chess Mind' blog, Peter. He's now up to 122 posts in this regard.

Join the Facebook group "Chess Book Collectors". There are often reviews there.

Maybe the publishers aren't sending complimentary copies of books to those who do the reviews.

That could be. Over the last few years, some chess book publishers have been releasing 15 or 20 page pdf samplers for new books. Maybe their strategy is to avoid the negative review by letting potential readers decide for themselves.
