General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
15. Have fun!

Mississauga June Standard - Jun 6, 2015 ( Saturday ) - 1 day
Re: Mississauga June Standard - Jun 6, 2015 ( Saturday ) - 1 day
We have 23 players pre-registered so far. A couple of kids 8 year old or younger registered and they are already above 1000 CFC rated. Good for them. Hope that they can give the others a good fight in the U-1400 section and improve on their rating. 3 new to be CFC members. Good sign indeed that this tournament will bring in new CFC members. 3 players from Brantford coming too. Thanks for the support as always.
As like the previous tournaments before, snacks and refreshments will be provided. All chess equipment are provided as well. Just bring yourself and have fun. The likelihood of winning is about 20% considering that there are more sections now than before.
We are looking forward to fill up 16 players for each section which means 96 players altogether. We had 82 players in our last tournament. Thanks for your continued support and we will strive to ensure the tournament is well organized as before.
Re: Mississauga June Standard - Jun 6, 2015 ( Saturday ) - 1 day
We are heading towards 40 players mark. A good mix of players in every sections ( 6 sections ).
We are still looking for more players to pre-register....hopefully we can break our record of 80 players ( Oct standard ) which I am quite optimistic. We had 9 masters played in the last tournament in the Open section and this time around we hope to have the same number of titled players to join. One of the objectives is for the juniors to have a go at these titled players. Razvan P will be defending his title this time around and I look forward to titled players to come and give him a good fight. For juniors, don't you want to have a go at him ? We are proud to have an IM ( GM to be with 2 Gm norms so far ) to play in our tournament and we support his quest to be a GM soon.
Cheers
Updated list coming up soon with the respective sections

Re: Mississauga June Standard - Jun 6, 2015 ( Saturday ) - 1 day
2 weeks to go.....we are up to 52 players so far as at May 26, 2015. We have a couple of Ontario Open section winners joining which is fantastic. 10 players in the recreation section and most of them are newcomers which is certainly great in our objectives to encourage players from coming out to play.
Re: Mississauga June Standard - Jun 6, 2015 ( Saturday ) - 1 day
10 days to go....
55 pre-registered so far. About 12 players in the Premier section with 2 titled players so far registered. Half of them are juniors and one of them is the U-2000 section winner in the recent Ontario Open.
We are still looking at 40 odds players to fill up so that each section has about 16 players.

Re: Mississauga June Standard - Jun 6, 2015 ( Saturday ) - 1 day
I would like to thank all the players and parents for attending MCC June Std yesterday and make it a great success.
80 paid players made it to the tournament which is about Oct 2015 Standard ( 7 months ago ). This June Std was the 4th edition and we had 6 sections ( including a recreation section ) this time.
Razvan P won again with 3.5 out of 4 points in the Premier section. Pocketed $ 250 and he won 4 Mississauga Stds in a row. Second was IM David Cummings and rising junior Richard Chen in a tie. Good fights in most of the games.
In U-2000 section, veteran Efren Franco came out of chess retirement ( after many years ) and won the section with 3.5 points out of 4. He beat CFC ED Bob G in a close fight in round 4. Bob G ended up in 2nd place.
In U-1700, veteran Pino V came out first beating local Mississaugan Tony Huang in round 4 and end with 3.5 points out of 4. Another close section to call. Tony H, Allyson Xu and Andrew Colvin ended up tie for 2nd with 3/4.
In U-1400, Shanglong Zhang came out first with 3.5 points out of 4. In U-1000 and Recreation, newcomers was the winners with Eric Wang winning U-1000 and Harvinder Kanwal winning Recreation section.
For family prize, newcomers Harvinder Kanwal and son Harkeerat Kanwal won $ 50 with 7 out of 9 points combined ( 78% ). Total number of families - 15 participated.
Total pay out was about 70% of the entry fees.
We will follow up with the winners photos in due course.
Once again thanks to all participants. We welcome any feedbacks to improve our future tournaments to my e mail address ( same with the one for registration )
