    Re: Reykjavik Open 2015

We did the Golden Circle tour today.
It's a guided tour around some of the most spectacular sights in Southern Iceland, including the Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir hot spring and Bobby Fischer´s final resting place.

        Reykjavik Open 2015

        March 13, 2015

The Viking Bakery, mentioned by Erik Malmsten earlier in this thread, is the subject of a short article in the Toronto Star

        http://www.thestar.com/life/food_win...ic-bakery.html

The owner is Birgir Robertsson and it is really an Icelandic bakery. This excerpt from the article:

“After high school, Robertsson studied for four years to become a baker, and a fifth to become a master baker. Then he ran a Reykjavik sports bar for most of his career before moving to Canada in 2009 during Iceland’s bank collapse and financial crisis.

He settled in Gimli, Manitoba on the western shore of Lake Winnipeg in an area once known as New Iceland that was founded by Icelandic settlers in the 1870s. It’s popular with summer cottagers and tourists, and is said to have the largest Icelandic population outside of Iceland.

In Gimli, Robertsson finally got to put his baking training to good use, running the popular Reykjavik Café for four years before finally making good on a personal pledge to move to Toronto.

He launched the Viking Bakery in late February at 2207 Danforth (east of Woodbine) and is currently open Tuesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

He changed his business name because too many people struggled to say Reykjavik.

Robertsson is new to Toronto, his bakery has only been open three weeks and he’s taking things a day at a time. He’s not making Iceland’s famous rugbraud yet, but hopes to occasionally find time to make the 12-hour dark rye bread. For now, he’s making caraway seed, raisin and sugar-free three-grain loaves.”

Unfortunately, Bobby Fischer’s birthday just passed on March 9. Celebrating it next year with deli meats and that black rye from The Viking Bakery and maybe a few pastries rather seems like fun.

Two Canadian games will be live in round 6-Eric Hansen vs Alex Rombaldoni (2488) and Razvan Preotu vs Hannes Stefansson (2560). Both of them are on 4/5. David Cummings is close to having his game live being at board 25 with 3.5/5. Big game on board 1 though, Mamedyarov vs Navara.

Carlsen & Hammer team won this year chess pub quiz with 26/30 correct answers. Some questions were very funny. Unfortunately I only got the answers from the winner team (the black writing is Hammer's) and no questions.
The 2012 winners were Michael Dougherty & David Cummings with 29/30

                Re: Reykjavik Open 2015

Unfortunately, there's no betting line on the Razvan game (I strongly suspect Razvan would have been an excellent bet at long odds) while Eric is somewhat surprisingly the prohibitive betting favourite despite the proximity of his opponent's rating (2566 vs 2488). Eric is the 5/4 favourite while Axel is the 37/5 dog, with even money draw odds.

Tangentially, Tania Sachdev, who has yet to lose in Reykjavik, is again at 27/10 draw odds against Gawain Jones despite having drawn both Eric and Hammer her last 2 games at similar odds. Can she complete her GM draw triumvirate?

There's no betting line on Eric's game today but he surely would have been another Black favourite. Black is the prohibitive favourite on the top 2 boards and in 6 of the 8 games being offered for betting today. The game which greatly interests me is the board 12 game between American IM Marc Esserman and Swedish GM Nils Grandelius. Marc, author of 'Mayhem in the Morra!', is generally considered the world's foremost expert on the Morra Gambit and if he gets to play one today, I certainly just love him at those 42/5 odds (:
