Of so many chess clubs that I have seen in GTA , Aurora Chess Club is one of the more organized club and this is due to the commitment put in by Graeme K and Egidijus Z. A fantastic club set up not too long ago ( few years ago only ) and has become of the role model chess club in GTA or even Canada.

I personally think that to set up a club is not difficult BUT to make it a successful club takes a lot of courage/determination and commitments from the officers of the clubs. Their website is excellent and professionally maintained unlike some websites.

AuCC has over the years grew into a big club with ( I think ) over 100 members over the years. They are holding 3 weekend tournaments a year and made them memorable for all the participants every time. To hold a tournament is not difficult but to make it a successful tournament is NOT easy at all. The number of players playing in the latest tournament ( more than 90 ) tells it all. They will definitely be giving Hart House a fight in terms of number of players in future tournaments. I am sure the next tournament will definitely break 100. The Open section is FIDE rated and managed to attract GM Bator which I think is fantastic especially for all the players who wants to have a go at a GM.

They held a Simul by Sergey N end of last year / early of this year and right now they are holding another one by IM Razvan P. This is certainly commendable as they are using all the promising youngster to promote the game. Kudos to Graeme and Egidijus !!!

I remember reading an article on the history of AuCC in TCN ( Bob A's magazine ) and is certainly a good read for all who think of setting up a chess club.

    Cheers !!!

Thnx Gary for good words about AuCC :)

There is one more major organizer - Bernie Prost. His work is not publicly visible but results like the Treasurer brings a lot sponsorship to the club.

Awesome ! 3 working together contributing equally to the success of the club....Excellent Excellent club

Thumbs up to you guys. There is a lot to learn from you guys.

I am very sure Mar 30 will be crowded with support just like when Sergey did the simul.

I urge those living nearby to attend the simul by Razvan ( just before he turn into GM ).

The club is growing but it has not reached 100 active members yet. The last Summer Open was with ~125 players. We hope the same or more this year too :)

We are excited about this simul. Some players know Razvan from times he was in chess diapers LOL

I'll take pictures of the simul and upload asap (Tuesday?)

39 players fight hardly against Razvan. They kept their ground till the club needed to pack and leave. I've several scoresheets of joyful winners. Pictures on Facebook. When they will be transferred to Picasa I'll share better ones here too.

              Several pictures.

Graeme introduced Razvan and reminded several rules.

              A sweep shoot

              The winner #1 Mike Chen

              The winner #2 Dave Pearson

              Razvan had tough time

              Especially playing against teams
