Those arriving after 9:20am may not be paired

Game Times
Saturday - 9:30am, 2:00pm and 6:30pm
Sunday – 11:00am, 4:00pm

Sections and Prizes
Top Guns, U2000 and U1600
Top Guns and U2000 will play for cash prizes. U1600 will play for trophies
To play in the Top Guns Section You must be 1900 or higher
To play in the U2000 section you must be 1500 or higher
Please note: Unrated players are not eligible for the U2000 prize.

Top Guns and U2000 $45.00 U1600 $25.00 Cash Only
Email us by Aug 14 to receive a $5.00 discount
Titled players who commit to playing by August 9th will receive a major discount
CFC Membership required

Time Control
All games 90 minutes with a 30 second increment

Rules and Equipment
Please Bring Chess sets, Boards and Digital Clocks
Players are responsible for providing their chess equipment
Please Turn off your cell phones
TD Rulings based on CFC/FIDE handbooks are final

The 2014 Edition of Hamilton Open was FIDE Rated last year: https://ratings.fide.com/tournament_...nt16=96717&t=0. Is it going to be FIDE Rated this year? Any plans of FIDE rating the UNDER 2000 section? Most players prefer FIDE Rated tournaments nowadays and quite a number of players have established FIDE ratings specially in the Under 2000 Section.

Earlier this week, I registered Hamilton Open and Mississauga Open for FIDE ratings, but the Top section for both only.
I just spoke with Garvin, and he confirms that is correct.

Besides, most players prefer CFC ratings. :)

Hi Ferdinand,

In the top section I only have a small majority that typically wants it rated. However, If top guns want to be more vocal to me about keeping the top section FIDE rated, I would greatly appreciate their feedback.

The lower sections are not FIDE rated in Hamilton because of the cost of doing so. Hamilton has one of the lowest entry fees for a chess tournament, given how big it is. Its cheap because, we don't do a lot of extras here. I'd personally like to maintain that style of tournament; however, I'm open to an overwhelming response by class A and B players who'd rather pay more to get more features and other stuff added on.

Keep in mind that volunteers might typically be needed if something gets added on that needs more than just money. I won't be adding anything to the tournaments unless I'm sure both the costs AND the labour are covered.

Hi everyone.

I want to apologize for getting way behind on both updating this thread and answering emails compared to how I normally run tournaments. Last week my mother went to the hospital and I have been doing a lot to take care of her there. I had to temporarily put both my chess and business duties on hold.

Im glad to say my mother is doing well now, though, and the gears are slowly beginning to turn again. I m catching up on both answering emails and will soon have more updates for this thread. I think its going to take me until sometime Monday to get everything sorted out.

I apologize to anyone whos been inconvenienced, I know for some its getting late to plan a trip to Hamilton without information they need from me. I will get it to you asap.

Ok everyone, get back to studying those chess positions. You've got tournaments to prepare for!!

Many are asking me about chess sets and clocks. While we have some we are asking people to bring their sets and clocks if they own them.
