    Hikaru Nakamura – Blog

A blog by Nakamura has appeared on chess.com

    http://www.chess.com/blog/Hikaru/us-champs

It is called “A Look Back at My Path to Winning the U.S. Championship”. A ponderous title, which somehow recalls Alekhine’s “Auf dem Wege zur Weltmeisterschaft” (1932).

He gives his games with Holt, Akobian, Kamsky, Troff and Onischuk, stressing balance and counterplay.

Hopefully the first blog of many.

I’m not sure I understand what point Nakamura is trying to make. Can anyone help me?

I can only assume that he is complaining (mildly and sarcastically) that having Black against a player who presumably still plays like 2600+ but is rated 2500-ish
means he has to work very hard for little potential rating gain and the distinct possibility of losing points unless he wins? Is that true - Nakamura lost points for a draw?

              Re: Hikaru Nakamura - Blog

Nakamura is about to beat Italian FM Christian Cacco (2337) but won't regain much of the 3.3 points he lost for the draw yesterday. It's a double round day in the Italian League so it's entirely possible he may have a 2nd game later today.

Nakamura didn't play the R5 game but MVL did and lost with Black to Italian FM Nicola Altini (2410) which cost him 8.9 FIDE points, dropping him 5 spots to number 17 in the world.

                    Re: Hikaru Nakamura - Blog

The ratings game at the top (the 2700+ club) is a very important one and all the players are very sensitive to their rating. The all important top tournament invitations are whats on the line and a dip of even "only" 10 points can mean the difference of losing key invitations. Having said that I dont feel sorry for those mentioned above as they are well aware of the risks in playing for the professional teams and are well compensated with great conditions.

Nakamura returned to action this morning and beat Poland's 6th ranked GM, Bartosz Socko (2613). Naka's 2.5/3 has gained him 0.3 FIDE points and reinstated his number 4 status.
