    Re: Khanty-Mansiysk Grand Prix 2015

    Khanty-Mansiysk 2015

    Eleventh Round, May 26, 2015

As you can see, the Tomashevsky game dragged on and on and finally there were a hundred people waiting in the lobby for it to finish so there could be the prize giving.

At the closing ceremony, the Chief Arbiter, Boris Postovsky gave, an interesting speech in which he gave these point totals:

    Caruana 370
    Nakamura 347
    Jakovenko 310
    Tomashevsky 282

The winner of this stage of the Grand Prix is Dmitry Jakovenko. I believe it was because he had more wins than any one else, four wins and two losses. Each of the top three was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a trophy. The overall winner was Fabiano Caruana.

Postovsky, a little miffed at having waited to get on stage said, “Tomashevsky lost heavily in this tournament in terms of unimplemented opportunities, that is why he was last to leave the tournament. He tried to play to the last pawn but failed in the endeavor!”

Boris Gelfand was praised for not losing a game at his age.

The Challenge B trophy of the Grand Prix was given to Caruana. It is in silver and gold and decorated with diamonds.

Fabiano got a copy. If he had gotten the original, he might have given up chess and gone into olive farming like Nigel Short! After all, being a chess professional is a tough life.

The anthems of the Russian Federation and FIDE were then played. While everyone was distracted, it would seem to me that that was the ideal time to exchange the trophy copy with the original, take a quick flight to Amsterdam to turn the diamonds into cash and then settle down in Tuscany with that olive farming thing.
