Patrick McDonald organized and directed the Ontario Youth Chess Championship in Kitchener this past weekend. There were a total of 186 players from across the province competing for a chance to call themselves Ontario Champion and earn a spot in the Canadian Youth Chess Championship taking place in Windsor July 6 - July 9, 2015.
Windsor/Lasalle/Amherstberg sent a record 52 players to Kitchener including a large number of newcomers as shown by the tournament website
http://oycc.ca/standings/standings.htm. We were missing some veterans and former Ontario champions, some of whom went to tournaments farther afield.
Rohan Talukdar just returned from a visit to India where he found the food or water didn't agree with him shook off his illness long enough to tie with Torontonian Nicholas Vettese for first place in the large under 12 open section. Adam Gaisinsky finished tied for third in the same section. Rachel Tao won the under 16 girls while sister Kaitlan Tao finished 3rd in under 8 girls. Jezzel Farkas finished second in the under 10 girls. Rahma Gillan tied for second in under 14 girls. Zhehai Zhang finished tied for third in under 14 boys.
Windsor is looking forward to hosting many of the same players at CYCC 2015 July 6th to July 9th. Early registration ends June 10 at which time the price goes up. There are only six rooms left in our block of reserved rooms so register now to have the convenience of a room in the tournament hotel.
There were 90 players who have registered (37 paid). This number probably doesn't take into account any that registered at OYCC. Note that a CFC junior membership is required in order to play and receive a pairing in the first round.
