    The next month is going to be exciting time for all on the Alberta chess scene with very interesting events throughout the province for all levels and age groups.

    Tomorrow evening the 10th Edmonton International will get under way at the Edmonton Chess Club. The festival will start with a lecture by 6 time Indian champion Grandmaster Surya Shekhar Ganguly on the topic of prophylactic play. The lecture will start at 6 pm and will be immediately followed at 7:15 pm by a 20 player simul conducted by the world's 25th highest rated player Grandmaster Pentala Harikrishna. The main event of the International will begin on Saturday and last until the following Sunday. The tournament will include some of the world's top Grandmasters including the defending champion, the legendary Vassily Ivanchuk. Tournament games will be broadcast live on the website.     The biggest prizes in Alberta are up for grabs in the third annual Fort-McMurray Open. The competition will take place on July 4-5 and will have $4,550 in prizes for players of all levels. Find out all the event details at: http://albertachess.org/FMO2015flyer.pdf

    The 8th annual Calgary International Chess Festival will kick off with a junior chess camp on July 27-29. The camp will be headlined by two Grandmasters including last year's champion-Grandmaster Victor Mikhalevski. Find out the camp information at: http://www.albertachess.org/8thcicc.php
    The main event of the Calgary International will be an open competition that will take place between July 29-August 3rd. While everyone is welcome in this tournament, in order to ensure a very high rated competition, the entry fees are based on the player's rating. If you are planning to play in this event you should hurry to register as the entry fees will go up on July 1st!
