Can you remind main rules that will be used in this champ? I haven't played lately, but seen various variations played.

    Like:
    Drop a piece with a mate (y/n) Drop a piece to a 8th/1st rank.
Moving a pawn to 8/1 - a queen or other piece? but when captured becomes a pawn again etc...
    Talk trash and loudly.

      - Drop checks, drop mates allowed
      - Pawn drops on 7th allowed, piece drops on 1st/8th allowed
      - Pawn drops on 1st or 8th not allowed
      - Promoted pawn reverts to a pawn after it's captured
      - Friendly banter is encouraged, trash talking within reason...

        Not touch move?
No touching pieces on yourpartner's board.
No hiding pieces in your hands.
Players can communicate in any language.
Mate played on board (not mating piece in hand) beats flagged clock.

these rules should be used for all bughouse tournaments, because they are the best rules: https://web.archive.org/web/20050204...com/rules.html
everytime it hurts, it hurts just like the first (and then you cry till there's no more tears)

Re: Toronto Bughouse Chess Championship hosted by Pub Chess Toronto

Hi all, another great turnout last week at pub chess with ~25 players. This week will be the Toronto bughouse championships! Please register by email to pubchesstoronto@hotmail (.com) with your name, your partner's name and a team name. Or sign up as an individual and we'll find a partner for you on site!

Ben- Thanks for the link, very comprehensive. In fact I think we may just make some minor tweaks to it, print it out, and have it available on site.

Erik- clock move not touch move, no touching pieces on other board, no hiding pieces in hand, English only, flag overrides mate on board (to stay consistent with clock move)

Bughouse tournament starts in 2 hours! We've had 5 teams pre-register and about 6-10 individuals planning to be partnered on site.

We have some press coming tonight to take pics and write an article on Pub Chess so we're hoping for a good turnout! See you soon!
