  • Questions for Jeff Sarwer!?

Jeff Sarwer, the first Canadian to win at the WYCC (1986, U10), has agreed to annotate some of his games for Chess Canada from the recent Shakkinet tournament in Finland where he earned an IM norm.

He's also agreed to an interview tomorrow.

    Suggestions Please:
What would you like me to ask him?

    Great idea, John!!

    Here are my thoughts.

    Chess-related:

    1. How he kept his love for chess alive through some very difficult circumstances.
    2. Did he play casual chess with friends, and / or keep up with chess news / developments, during his absence from competitive play.
    3. Motivation for returning to high-level competition at this time, and thoughts on his performance in Finland.
    4. Competitive goals (IM, GM titles, etc).
    5. Potential return to play competitive chess in Canada at some future time.

    Other aspects of his life:

    6. Current profession / occupation situation.
    7. Travels and interesting experiences, including memories of the 1986 World Youth.
    8. Family relationships (this could get personal, so it will be tricky to delve into).
    9. Anything he would do differently, given the chance.
    10. Other interests (music, media, movies, games, reading, sports, etc).

I'll look forward to the published interview.

    Cheers,
    Frank Dixon
    Kingston

If he could only play either poker or chess for the rest of his life which would he choose and why?

Interview is over, but if you post more questions I might try to pass them along and include any answers in his report.

BTW: he's annotating 4 of his games from his IM norm win at Shakkinet, and he IS planning to play next month in Las Vegas :)

That last one isn't a secret, but I didn't know until he told me:
