Yes! The transfer from Russia to Canada for GM Evgeny Bareev was made official during the 86th FIDE Congress in Abu Dhabi. I thank the Russian Chess Federation for their co-operation.

    Welcome aboard Evgeny!!

Is Evgeny planning to keep playing in/for Canada, or will teaching chess be his main activity?

I agree! Anton K should be included even if he hasn't played in Canada in the past 12 months.

And with the above top ten, with an average rating of 2603, Canada moves from #41 in the FIDE world rankings to #15 >>>>>

Oops, Mea culpa ! Mixing apples and oranges.
The above list is comprised of CFC ratings whereas the FIDE national rankings are based on the average FIDE rating of the top ten (and in this case not the same ten as listed above). By adding in Evegeny B's raing to the mix our top ten average increases from 2500 to 2523 and places us at #23 on the FIDE list. Oh well, #15 did seem far fetched. :)

Err, that would certainly be true if FIDE accepted CFC ratings on par with FIDE ratings... alas we'll have to content ourselves with a slightly more modest leap.

To answer Hugh's question, I expect teaching will be his main chess activity. Time will tell us how much he plays.

It appears that we can watch him as the 8th seed in this years Millionaire Chess.

Edward Winter gives a photo of Evgeny Bareev in his Chess History:

                              Canada welcomes GM Evgeny Bareev

                              May 22, 2016

In the GTA Section of the Toronto Star today there is an article by Alex Ballingall about Evgeny Bareev:

                              https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/201...ess-hopes.html

                              It is entitled:

A Grand new future for Canada’s chess hopes
Meet Evgeny Bareev, the chess master from Russia who wants to make Canada great at the game.

Two paragraphs from the interesting article:

Absent competitive fire, the 49-year-old has turned to coaching after he switched allegiances to Canada’s chess body last year and immediately became the highest-ranked grandmaster ever to call this country home. Bareev promises to wear the Maple Leaf at the upcoming chess Olympiad in Azerbaijan this September, but now his main goal is to help raise a competitive generation of players in his new country.
                              _______

The new king of Canadian chess lives in a spacious apartment in North York, just off Bayview Ave. Inside, a row of shoes is placed on a small carpet near the front door, which opens onto a sparsely furnished room more dustless than a surgical ward. Jovial and effervescent, Bareev places a bowl of chocolate-covered peanuts and Kit-Kat bars on his kitchen table, and insists that his guest eat something.
                              ________

It gives his early life, his chess career, his life in Canada and his teaching. Illustrated with a nice big colour photo. Well worth reading.
