In cooperation with the Hart House Chess Club, we'll be having a special University of Toronto event this coming Wednesday September 16th at the Madison Pub. For U of T students and Hart House Club members, casual play will be free and tournament will be half price ($10 + drink ticket). Present your t-card or Hart House Club membership card at registration desk. Hart House Club membership is $16/year for U of T students and can be purchased at the Hart House front desk.
Non-students are still welcome and encouraged to come!
There will also be a Lecture by FM Michael Humphreys for ~1300+ rated players, starting at 6:15pm, and WNM Liza Orlova will be available to teach beginners and under 1300 rated players.
We also received a fair bit of feedback from our surveys and have decided to make some changes. The time control in the Open will be shortened to 3 min + 2 second increment, and the U2000 rapid will be shortened to 8 min + 2 sec increment. We'll also be adding a 10 minute break after round 2 (for eating, chatting, smoke break, solving puzzles, etc.) Overall this will shave off some time for those who commute or have work in the morning. Our aim will be to finish the tournament at 9:30pm, & players can stay later to play & socialize.
