    Q: What is The Friendship Games?

    A: A norm possible 9 round FIDE rated chess tournament, October 28 November 1, organized by Michigan Chess Festival LLC. IA Hal Bond, a widely and richly experienced Arbiter who served as Deputy Arbiter for the Anand-Kramnik World Championship Match in 2008, will be the Chief Arbiter.

    Tourney Details : The Friendship Games. October 28 - November 1. Acknowledging and celebrating the improved relations between the USA and Cuba; several leading Cuban players are expected to compete. 9 Round Swiss, FIDE rated, norms possible. Organized by Michigan Chess Festival LLC. Boards, clocks and sets will be provided by Michigan Chess Festival LLC.

    Royal Dearborn Hotel & Convention Center 600 Town Center Drive, Dearborn, MI 48126 Rates: $109 (Group Code: 3887. Call: 313-592-3622 to reserve room, make sure to use the group code.)

    Time Control: G 90, Inc. 30. Rounds: Wednesday 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, 1:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m.

    Registration Fees : $240 until end of September 22 (this date has been extended, register early to take advantage of this outstanding price), $260.00 until end of October 27, 2015, $300.00 thereafter.

    Prizes : 1st: $4,000, 2d: 2,000, 3rd: 1,100, 4th: 900, 5th: 750, 6th: 500, 7th: 250, 8th: 100. U2400 (FIDE): 1st: 600, 2d: 300; U2200 (FIDE): 1st: 500, 2d: 250.

    Players already committed to compete in the Friendship Games include (partial list): GM Fidel Corrales, GM Roberto Mogranzini (Italy), IM Martha Fierro (Ecuador), WGM Lisandra Ordaz Valdez (Cuba). We expect additional Cuban players to compete, including members (note the plural) of the Cuban Olympic team. Also expected to compete are titled players from Canada, India, numerous titled players from the USA, and many other strong players. Updates on the players who have committed to compete can be found on the tourney website, www.michiganchessfestival.com , or interested persons may inquire at info@michiganchessfestival.com The Friendship Games builds on the success of prior Fall Festivals organized by MCFLLC.

    Onsite registration begins at the Hotel at 4:30 p.m., and ends at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

    About Michigan Chess Festival LLC: Michigan Chess Festival LLC has been organizing outstanding tournaments since 2011.       A Scholastic, a weekend Swiss, and a FIDE Rated, Norm Possible, 5 day 9 round Open Swiss.
      Where : Royal Dearborn Hotel & Convention Center 600 Town Center Drive, Dearborn, MI 48126, a beautiful, reasonably priced luxurious hotel that is a fantastic, historically significant venue for chess.
      When:
      The International Renaissance Chess Classic , a 6 round scholastic tournament, begins Friday October 30 and ends November 1. This scholastic tournament is relatively inexpensive to enter, offers extensive individual and team opportunities to compete, and will award many trophies;
      The Fifth Fall Festival , a 5 round weekend Swiss, begins Friday, October 30 (or the 31st, for the 2 day schedule, and ends November 1. This typical weekend Swiss will include Grandmaster Alex Lenderman as the featured player, the entry fees are reasonable. There will be two sections, OPEN and RESERVE (under 1800 USCF). NOTE: This tournament will award substantial cash prizes, there will be trophies, Trophies Plus Grand Prix 50 (Enhanced), and it is also a US Chess Junior Grand Prix event;
      The Friendship Games , a 9 round Norm Possible tournament, begins Wednesday, October 28, and ends November 1. This tourney acknowledges and celebrates the improved relations between the USA and Cuba. Featured players (this amazing list is still in formation, we expect other players of note to be added!) include past Cuban National Champions Yuniesky Quesada, Isan Ortiz, Women s Champion and Cuba s #1 Woman Lisandra Ordaz Valdes, Cuba s #7 GM Carlos Hevia , United States Stars Gata Kamsky (that s right, the legendary Gata Kamsky will compete!!), Fidel Corrales and incredible young talent who recently became a GM, Jeffery Xiong . Also GMs Ashwin Jayaram , Roberto Mogranzini , IMs Martha Fierro and Angelo Young, and more. Players from the United States, Canada, China, Cuba, Ecuador, India, Italy, and the Philippines have already committed to compete. We hope and expect to welcome players from across the United States to The Friendship Games. It is still possible to enter at the reasonable $260 rate (this will go up to $300 as the tourney date impends). Trophies and significant cash prizes will be awarded. Trophies Plus Grand Prix 200 (Enhanced), and it is also is a US Chess Junior Grand Prix event. The International Arbiter for this important international tournament will be IA Hal Bond.
