  • Fischer Continues to Appeal ...

This book is scheduled to come out at the end of the year with a retail price of $80 US. Can you imagine any other player to whom a mass-market publisher would accord such treatment?

Bobby Fischer: The Career and Complete Games of the American World Chess Champion (Hardcover)

    Russell Enterprises, 476 pages

Russell Enterprises is hardly a mass-market publisher.

True. It would have been more precise to say a major chess publisher. I could see McFarland doing this, but I find it a little unusual from Russell, as I would with Gambit, Everyman or NIC.

        Hi Neil,

Russell lost the USCF business after it turned out to be less lucrative than most anticipated. There is a lawsuit there somewhere...tis the American way :)

He has diversifified. Took a page from Quality Chess that has redone classics like My System, Laskers Manual, New York 1924 etc. He has picked up distribution contracts while he was representing USCF. These stay with him.

He was a lawyer in a past life...I wouldn't worry too much about his future :)

I'm not worried Larry. He strikes me as a very good businessman - the kind of person chess needs more of. I am all in favour of people making money off of chess. I think it's very healthy.

Interestingly the book is by Karsten Mueller, wonder if there will be an emphasis on Fischer's endgame play.
