    Top Secret – Ukrainian Championship

    December 4, 2015

    From chess24.com:

The 2015 Ukrainian Championship started yesterday, with Women’s World Champion Mariya Muzychuk choosing to compete against eleven strong male grandmasters. That promised to be fascinating to watch, but then a shock – the games were not only not being broadcast live, but the plan was not to publish them at all! One explanation given, as a Ukrainian chess24 user confirmed after talking to the tournament director, is to hide Mariya Muzychuk’s games from her World Championship rival, Hou Yifan.

Everything was set for the tournament to start. The attractive official website was only missing the live games link to appear, and then we could show the games here on chess24. Well, we got the pairings, and eventually the results…but, as you’ll see if you click on the games, there are no moves. It may be that we'll have to hide the tournament as a live option on our site.

Mariya Muzychuk drew against Andrei Volokitin in the first round though the moves of her game were a carefully guarded secret.

Chess-news.ru says that jokes about the tournament are starting to come in. Among them:

    - A drone was shot down over the Hotel Voltaire. The Organizing Committee has said it was of Chinese origin and all traces lead back to Hou Yifan

    - It has been announced that at the conclusion of the Championship, the prizes will not be given until after March 18, so as not to violate the ban on reporting

    - The Organizing Committee have announced that they will only report the moves of Mariya’s rivals but not hers

    Round Two

    December 5, 2015

    Official Site: http://2015.ukrchess.com/en

It is now possible to download the games of the first two rounds from the Official Site.

As reported, the scores of Mariya Muzychuk’s two games – draws against Volokitin and Sivuk – are not given.

Ivanchuk, Eljanov, Korobov, Ponomariov and Moiseenko are not playing in this championship and the standing after two rounds is:

    Kovchan 2
    Kuzubov 2
    Areschchenko 1.5
    Efimenko 1
    Muzychuk 1
    Kryvoruchko 1
    Kravtsiv 1
    Volokitin 1
    Sivuk 0.5
    Neverov 0.5
    Zubarev 0.5
    Fedorchuk 0

Can the organizers of Tata Steel conceal the scores of Hou Yifan’s games there, I wonder?

Seems to me it likely won't matter whether Hou Yifan can see her games, I believe Hou Yifan is by far the most likely winner of any encounter... Idiots.
