FWIW, I'm with Scott on this one. There is a horrendous conflict of interest on here. How can I put this politely? Vlad, STFU and let the bids be reviewed properly!

Members should be questioning your role in positioning the CFC in the FIDE voting, but I guess this is just another plank in your ego trip? If, as you say, you don't need all this hassle, I'm sure there are are those who would second the proposal to fire you...lol!

And (some) people wonder out loud why NOBODY is interested in serving on the CFC Executive. Vlad gets slammed if he upholds the rules and he gets slammed if he steps outside them - even in cases where the 'rule' is clearly being interpreted literally rather than with any common sense.

I've no stake in this. I just see it as a bit corrupt. The CYCC should move around. It is for chess playing children of Canada by the way. It shouldn't be monopolized. Especially by the president.

I forgot to mention Kingston. Another great city. Great location for the NAYCC.

Vlad Drkulec took Vancouver's bid off the table on a trivial mistake, killing some competition, promotes his city to all three major events in Canada (the CYCC two years in a row) and says he bent over backwards tryng to treat all bids fairly.
He is suppose to be the president of the CFC who's job it is to uphold the mandate of the Federation.

He is not promoting chess in Canada. He's promoting chess in the hotel/casino in Windsor. If there was no other choice then good on him..but Quebec City and the UBC campus in Vancouver? Arguably the two most beautiful cities in Canada.

Shame on you sir. The Vancouver bid didn't meet the basic CYCC criteria regarding financing for the WYCC. A member brought a point of order about that and the president ruled the bid invalid and that it should be taken off the table. The Vancouver committee then modified their bid to become compliant regarding financing (it was not a "trivial" mistake) and the president presented it to the voting members but pointed out that for it to be considered, somebody would have to bring a motion to have it added back in. Nobody did as far as I could see.

This was all quite transparent. The Vancouver bid was non-compliant. It was taken off the table. Nobody put it back on after it was modified. The president was under no obligation to communicate about it after it was off the table but did anyway. The members voted.

Its not the youth coordinator's job to vet bids. The executive did discuss the deficiencies of the bid which arrived quite late. It was decided to post the bid and point out the problems that we saw with the bid which is what was done.

"Youth Coordinator - ... The Youth Coordinator will be responsible for finding organizers for the Canadian Junior Championship and the Canadian Youth Chess Championships...."

I assume "finding" means assisting too.

As I see in the thread the 150 point was made first by F.D., and not in the bid presentation.

Makes me wonder why a Youth coordinator did not catch such obvious mistake before the bid was presented to Voting members. It would have been more appropriate to solve this issue without going public.

That is true, although based on what you originally wrote it seemed like ACA is having some financial difficulties which is very far from the truth. To be honest, I don't know when was the last time that a chess in tournament in Alberta relied on oil money (other than the Ft. McMurray Open) as most funding comes from Alberta Gaming related activities. Of course the worsening economy makes it less likely to receive any private sponsorship but I don't think that it would be a major constraint.

A further conversation with my inside source who I'm sure you know explained a bit more about the current situation and the fact that there was some confusion and uncertainty as to how things stood until recently. Anyway, I understand that things are fine and we can look forward to more events in Alberta.

I wasn't bashing Vlad. He and volunteers have done an incredible job in the Windsor area. I'm just saying what I'm seeing.

I was just contacted by the Vancouver Organizers. They've just created an account but wanted me to help by posting their statement now.

I already posted that in the meeting. No one can say that I haven't bent over backwards to accommodate all the bidders.

How many times has the west bid on CYCC in the last seven years prior to this year? Once. How many times did the west win the bid on CYCC in the last seven years? Once. What percentage of bids from the west have been successful over this period. 100%. Calgary was set to bid on the Canadian Open and CYCC this year and would have been successful because they would have been the only bid. Their bid fell apart because of the economy in Alberta. There are 161 kids who are CFC members out west. There are 688 CFC/FQE junior members or so out east though I am using 2013 figures for Quebec. According to your statistics 5 out of 21 CYCC's have been in the west or 23.8% of the total. The west comprises 19% of Canada's chess playing kids. By your own statistics the west as not hard done by as you are alleging but has actually had more than its share of CYCC's by chess population..

All the more reason to help the western bids, not discourage them.
