  • Iranian Championship - 12 yr old leads

http://en.chessbase.com/post/2016-ir...s-and-the-no-1 Twelve year old leads and is playing exciting chess! What makes it even more interesting is the top seed (a 2600 GM) has just cracked and lost in round 7! Many interesting battles.

The 10-time Iranian Champion, GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami (2594), lost to the 12-year-old Alireza Firouzja (2455) yesterday and clearly won't be winning his 11th championship.

Re: Iranian Championship - 12 yr old leads

http://en.chessbase.com/post/12-year...anian-champion That 12 yr old boy that was leading won the championship in style! - undefeated and a win in the last round! Two other boys finished 2nd and 3rd and will therefore form the core of their Olympic Team. The two GM's in the field (including a 12 time champion) got left behind. Has that ever happened before in a championship anywhere??
