    Question regarding 2009 CYCC prizes

    From the 2009 CYCC website:

"Prizes: Winners of each combined section and each section with 8 or more players receive $1000 toward expenses for their trip to Turkey to participate in the World Youth Chess Championship 2009. The WYCC are providing free board (meals and lodging) for winners of the 12 categories. More funding toward expenses will be provided to the winners if finances permit."

Will be correct to clarify before CYCC what funding formula will be used for the sections with less then 8 players.

Also what it will be the case of the section with more then 8 players? Will the extra funding go to help the 2nd place or more funding toward 1st place in the same section or towards the first place of the "less then 8 players" sections.

The Turkish federation is the one providing free board (meals and lodging) for the first place.

Re: CYCC updates 99 players now registered!

I agree it would be good to get clarification now on how the funds will be distributed to the winners. I will try to get clarification and post it on the CYCC site. The CFC normally disburses funds for the winners to travel to the WYCC.

The CFC receives $125 per player for early registrations. This is the source of funds for travel. Currently there are 100 players registered.
      100 X $125 = $12,500 I expect at least another 50 players. 150 X $125 = $18,750

In 2005 Victoria sent 150 X $140 = $21,000 to the CFC and paid for most of the expences (except for trophies).

The CFC has zero expences associated with the 2009 CYCC. We are paying for all costs associated with the event, including registration, score sheets, TD, trophies, souvenirs, playing site, etc.

Only a few sections have less than 8 players. I am hoping all sections will have at least 8 players.

This promises to be a highly successful event. Congratulations to the organizers and to the Province which I understand contributed.
That is more than Ontario did in 2007 although we were able to cover all expenses and wrote a cheque to the CFC for more than $50,000 which they in their wisdom....:)

          Question regarding 2009 CYCC prizes

          Hi Brian,

Thank you for trying to clarify this matter. An official answer from CFC maybe from Ellen will be great.

            Travel funds for WYCC

Here is clarification from Ellen Nadeau.

Sections with less than 8 players will be combined at TD discretion. The winner of the combined section will receive $1000 toward travel to the WYCC. For example if U18G and U16G are comined the First place finisher (eg U16G wins) gets the 1,000 prize plus lodging/board and the Top U18G would receive free lodging/board.

With more than 8 Players it is the same 1000 + lodging/board.
If there is more money available .......the CFC will partially fund the winners of sections which were combined ie U18G, And subject to available funds pay the FIDE registration costs for winners (75-150Euros each!) and if further funds available fund a Team Coach or Captain.

We are now at 110 players. Most sections are at the 8 minimum already. It would be great to have the minimum in each section. Let all your friends know about the 2009 CYCC and meet them in Victoria this summer. Visit an exotic island in the Pacific this July and take in all 8 days of chess!
