  • history of EOCA champions

Hi there, the EOCA Executive decided during this season to dedicate a new trophy to be awarded annually to the EOCA Champion. It will be named the Terry Fleming Cup, in honour of one of the key builders of the EOCA in its early days. In addition, this trophy will serve as a great trip down memory lane, as it will record all of the EOCA Champions, since 1982?

This is where we want to make sure that we have all our information perfectly correct, as for example, I only moved to Ontario in 1991. To start, David Gordon graciously retrieved the probably accurate list from David Cohen's website. I figured though that it couldn't hurt to post it here for a final public review. In a nutshell, the following list should be totally accurate as to season (year-year), [co-]winner[s] name[s], including perfect spelling.

If you note ANYTHING imperfect, please reply to me as soon as feasible. Thank you!

    2007-2008 David Gordon
    2006-2007 David Gordon
    2005-2006 David Gordon
    2004-2005 Marc Cazelais

    2002-2003 Sebastian Predescu
    2001-2002 Mihnea Voloaca
    2000-2001 Miladin Djerkovic
    1999-2000 Deen Hergott, Tom O'Donnell
    1998-1999 Deen Hergott
    1997-1998 Deen Hergott, Michael Schleifer
    1996-1997 Deen Hergott
    1995-1996 Glenn Johnstone
    1994-1995 Gordon Taylor
    1993-1994 Gordon Taylor
    1992-1993 Deen Hergott
    1991-1992 Deen Hergott
    1990-1991 Deen Hergott
    1989-1990 Deen Hergott

    1984-1985 Brian Hartman
    1983-1984 Stephen Ball

P.S. I am still banned from the Ottawa-based OCC board, so feel free to confirm there.

    Hi Aris,

I has nothing to add, just to ask ;) I looked through the EOCA webpage, and could not find tournaments for EOCA championship (sorry if i missed). Is it the title awarded to the Grandprix champion?

With Erik M. help we are trying to collect Toronto (GTCL) champions and tournaments results (http://torontochess.org/drupal/node/143) Hope, you collect similar info as well :)
