  • Where is "Spraggett on the state of Canadian chess"

I'm sure I've seen references to an article Kevin has written (is writing?) on the state of Canadian chess, but I can't seem to find the article.

    Does anyone have a link?

I think it has been promised for about three weeks from now.

We still have to wait for that, but I think it is on the way. Lets be patient.

This much anticipated article should appear in roughly two weeks.

As CFC members, we are all too quick to blame reducing membership numbers as the reason to the CFC's decline. This article, ( as well as others that may follow ) should show the 'real' reason.

Real reason? I love conspiracy theories. I thought the real reason is the inability to compete by using modern technology, such as the internet, effectively. It's a server world. In any case, I've dispatched my secretary, Miss HatchetHead, to Borneo. She will be visiting the headwaters of the Busang River to attempt to find a relic such as a salt shaker. Such a find would be golden.

I enjoyed the game on Kevin's blog and it stimulated a few neurons. I always thought 5. ... d6 which Onischuk played was wrong. It looks like the Exchange Variation where black recaptured bxc6 instead of dxc6. The result isn't etched in stone, but close.

I'm definitely curious to see if I still rate as the worst thing ever to happen to Canadian Chess :p

Did you invent 5. .... d6? in that opening?
