    Hi Egis:

I see on the pre-registration list that you have provided FIDE ratings for those in the U 2000 section - thanks. I see we currently have 4 FIDE rated players. The flyer says:

"* U2000 will be FIDE rated if 6 or more FIDE rated players participate in the section."

If you are in the U 2000 section and have a FIDE rating, and are available that weekend, seriously consider playing.

The participation of 2 more FIDE-rated players in our section will get it FIDE rated. For the U 2000 players, the more new players that get FIDE ratings, the more often other organizers will offer this option to us as well......but there must be a big enough pool of U 2000 FIDE rateds to make FIDE rating both available and worthwhile.

I, and I know many others, enjoy playing in AuCC tournaments. And on Saturday AM, I can get from my door in Toronto to the Legion Hall in only 30 min.! And coming back late Sat. night is almost as fast.

It's worth the trip to Aurora! (To cop an ad)

Bob A (I declare that Graeme did not pay me for this! ;) )

P.S. - Egis - a small thing that may not really matter - the pre-reg list uses my old rating at the time I pre-registered. It is now 1611 - the real significance of this is that I don't have to pay the playing up fee, as I usually have had to for many years past now! Whoohoo (Though I suppose you will be waiting 'til next Wed. to update all ratings).

Just a thought, and I'll respect any decision that Graeme makes...

Ruperto Frilles has a FIDE rating over 2000 and so IMHO should not be allowed to play U2000, in spite of his CFC rating. He should have to play in the Open (Tier1, lol) section.

Yup, you're right. The list will be updated with new ratings on the September 29 or 30 after registration closing.

I think I have seen that he was once on the Open list then moved to U2000. Need to double check what happened.

We'd miss Ruperto in the U 2000's, but I think Matthew is right.

I have had my FIDE rating given precedence over my CFC rating in a Canadian tournament. I have had my FIDE rating used, though for me to my benefit.

When my FIDE rating was over 1600, but my CFC rating was below 1600, I argued that my highest rating was the one the organizer should use for section selection. In this case, the sections were (If I'm remembering correctly) U 2100 and U 1700.

I wanted to play up in the U 2100. I said I was within 100 pts. of the floor of the higher section, IF my FIDE rating is the proper one to use. And that I should be able to pay a "playing up fee" to get into the U 2100, because of the use of my FIDE (Not CFC) rating.

The organizer agreed (Of course it was because I was right in principle, not just because he got an unexpected playing up fee! ;). )

            Bob A

P.S. IF a FIDE rating is old (say 5 years, with no subsequent FIDE tournament ratings), maybe there is an argument from the player that it should not override a current CFC rating, that has changed numerous times over the last 5 years. But I note that Ruperto's FIDE rating has been updated already 3 times in 2016, so it is likely as good an indicator of current strength as the current CFC rating.

There was an error entering his FIDE rating: 2025 was taken from the chess.ca, while his actual rating is 1925 from fide.com

I am pleased to see 7 players with FIDE ratings in the U 2000 section - the organizers guaranteed that the U 2000 section would also be FIDE rated if there were at least 6 FIDE-rated players in the section. Whooohooo.

This is important to class players since we have few opportunities to play for FIDE-rating points. The more of us class players that get FIDE ratings, the more often we will meet organizer terms as to no. of players for FIDE-rating our section since our pool will be growing.

It's worth the trip to Aurora!
