Re: Mississauga Open - Saturday Oct 22
We are going to try something different this year, besides the format (4 rounds, 1 day).
I am talking about changing the registration procedures to ensure round 1 starts on time.
The first round is scheduled to start at 10am. I am making this the top priority for 2016. If you arrive late, you don’t play round 1. This will come as a shock to those who wander in late and assume chess tournaments never start on time. So, be warned.
The procedures are:
For those who pre-register, you must arrive on site by 9:45am. If you don’t pre-register, you must arrive on site by 9:30am.
To check in, you must hand in your registration card in person. The registration cards will be on a table by the entrance. We will not be collecting any fees before round 1. Everyone is responsible for paying entry fees and CFC dues before round 2.
Comments!
I have some further clarifying comments, but I have to be somewhere shortly. Later.Last edited by Bob Gillanders; Tuesday, 27th September, 2016, 06:54 PM.

Re: Mississauga Open - Saturday Oct 22
We are over 20 players currently. Keep them coming. Please see above post for the pre-registration list as at Oct 3, 2016
For such a reasonable entry fees and you get to play 4 CFC regular rated games and also win them all in one day, that is a steal......
Cheers
About two weeks to go

Re: Mississauga Open - Saturday Oct 22
We have surpassed the number 30 now. Refer to the list in the post above. Lots of kids in the U-1200 section.
We are still expecting 70 players to make it 100.
12 more days before the early bird dateline is over. The clock is ticking. Why wait ?

Re: Mississauga Open - Saturday Oct 22
9 more days to go before early bird dateline.
We have 38 at the moment. We are expecting 25 for each section.
Guaranteed prize of $ 2k and should be more if the entries are at least 80-100. You can win the same prize money over one day instead of two days. Lots of new faces this time in U-1200 section.
What are you waiting for ? Hope to hear from you guys this long weekend.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you

Re: Mississauga Open - Saturday Oct 22
According to the tournament flyer, the open section will be FIDE rated. However, the tournament time control is not eligible for (standard) FIDE rating:
1.
Rate of Play
1.1
For a game to be rated, each player must have the following minimum periods in which to complete all the moves, assuming the game lasts 60 moves.
Where at least one of the players in the tournament has a rating 2200 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 120 minutes.
Where at least one of the players in the tournament has a rating 1600 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 90 minutes.
Where all the players in the tournament are rated below 1600, each player must have a minimum of 60 minutes.
1.2
Games played with all the moves at a rate faster than the above are excluded from the list.
1.3
Where a certain number of moves is specified in the first time control, it shall be 40 moves.

3 days to go before the early bird dateline ( Oct 18 ). Please do support our MCC and our tournament. Prize guaranteed at minimum $ 2,000 and will be more if the entries are good. It has always been well organized with Bob Gillanders being the Chief organizer. We have a fairly good crowd in U-1200 section but other sections are still sorely lacking. We are counting on you to send us your registration asap.
Cheers !!!

Re: Mississauga Open - Saturday Oct 22
We are at 57 now - half way our target of 100 players with 4 days to go before early bird dateline on Oct 18.
Actual date is Oct 22 which is 8 days away.
According to Bob Gillander's theory, we should be able to double up to 100 since the last week registration will match up whoever that has signed up so far.....:)
Can we do it ? It all depends on you ( players )Last edited by Gary Hua; Friday, 14th October, 2016, 04:13 PM.

Re: Mississauga Open - Saturday Oct 22
We are approaching 60 now and hopefully there will be 20 signing up over this weekend for us to reach 80.
Last year prize money was excellent (120 participants ) and if we can reach 100-120, I am pretty sure we will have another excellent harvest and this is over ONE day unlike last year where it was over TWO days ( more money spent over two days ).
We are still so much short in the first two sections. 4 days from early bird dateline ( Oct 18 ) . Don't miss the date or you will have to pay MORE.
