1. The Date: We have re-set the OHSCC 2017 to Fri Apr 7 - Sat Apr 8.
Chess'n Math will hold the Ontario Chess Challenge on Sunday Apr 23, 2017.
We know a lot of players enjoy both OHSCC and OCC.
This way, with Easter in between, players can play in both tournaments.
2. Fund raising project:
You have read the details a fortnight ago. Please review these notes, and consider joining us!
Many thanks to Mike Ivanov, Marco Greco, Paul Leblanc, Johanna Weissenborn,
and Andrew Giblon who have joined our fund raising team.
We have important plans to make the 50th year of the OHSCC special.
We do have sponsors. But our plans need more than our sponsors can provide.
We are asking each of you to do 2 things:
1. contribute $10 (more if you can, but $10 is great) using the link
https://chuffed.org/project/50th-ont...s-championship
(You need PayPal.)
2. Forward this request and link to all your friends and contacts,
with your personal word and request that they help.
This is called "crowd fund raising".
It may be a first for the Canadian chess community.
Each and every one of you is important - when you contribute, others will see your contribution and see the funds growing.
Your help in spreading the word - with your personal endorsement - is also critical.
The campaign has 24 days left.
Below are the details on what the funds will be used for - the main goal is to
enable a record number of players from all regions of Ontario to play,
and to run a great championship for all these players.
Please help us!
Please spread the word as far as possible!
Thank you very much.
Yours sincerely,
Chris Field.

The goal of this project is to get thousands of people each to contribute
$10 (more if anyone can !)
Please forward this message to all your contacts, with your recommendation!
Many of us can spare $10 for a good cause like this.
I have maybe 200 contacts from recent tournaments.
If each of you can contribute $10, that's $2000!
If each of you can forward this to 20 friends and ask them to help,
that's potentially $40 000!
If a few are able to contribute a bit more...
If a few of you have more than 20 friends and contacts...
If everyone who reads this message on Chess Talk contributes $10...
We're celebrating the 50th year of the
Ontario High School Chess Championship
in 2017 (Fri Apr 7 - Sat Apr 8) in Toronto.
Details for the actual tournament will be announced early in October.
Meanwhile, we hope to make this 50th year extra special.
We do have some sponsors, whom we’ll announce with the tournament
details, and whom we hope you will support.
But we need your help too!
If you can spare $5, $10, or even a little more,
please consider joining our fundraising team.
Here's the link to our crowd-fund-raising site:
https://chuffed.org/project/50th-ont...s-championship
It takes only a few clicks to donate your desired amount via PayPal.
Your contributions go directly to the tournament's PayPal account.
With the help of a few thousand people like you,
we hope to raise $50 000 !
Whatever for?
* to assist with transportation cost to bring students from all parts of Ontario;
* to help with the cost of accommodation in Toronto;
* to bring a record number of students to participate
(the record is 245, set in 1972);
* to provide honoraria and expenses for professional arbiters for a large tournament;
* to buy equipment to enable a large tournament
(we’ll share it with schools for more tournaments);
* to cover rating fees and (modest) organising expenses;
* to provide a scorebook and pencil for each player;
* to provide an anniversary T-shirt to each registered player and teacher;
* to hold a reception to honour current teachers, parents,
and past Champions and organisers;
* to provide a reasonable reserve fund for the 51st year and beyond.
If we can reach our goal of record attendance,
the entry fees ($50 / student) will total over $12 000!
If we can reach our fund-raising goal, then 100% of entry fees
will be returned to our players in a record prize fund.
For more details about the Championship,
check our website at http://www.ohscc.on.ca
All tournament details will be mailed to school boards by the October 15,
and of course all details will be posted on our website.
Thank you very much for any contribution you can give.
Please pass this on to any of your friends - with your personal endorsement -
who might be interested in helping.
Yours sincerely,
Chris Field.
