  • Millionaire Open....the last one?

Unless the sponsors want to put up the money for tax or charity purposes, I don't see another Millionaire Open happening. There were about 450 entries paying between $549 and $649 each. If we say an average of $600 each, that gives us a total of $270k in entry fees. Prizes were $330k guaranteed - nowhere near a million. :-) Add to this hall rental, TD's advertising, etc. you can see that the loss was in the tens of thousands.

    Canadian prizewinners included:

    Open: Aman Hambleton ($650)
Raven Sturt ($558) - I don't think he's Canadian, but he was/is going to McGill.

U1800: Prince Eric Guipi Bopala ($456)

There may be others. Prize list is at: https://millionairechess.com/prizes-overview

I thought Atlantic City was a big mistake for a venue. I was not going to fly into Phili, then commute out there. I would have played in Vegas.
