  • Saturday Blitz on Danforth

Despite verbal enthusiasm for holding regular 15 min active tournaments, NOBODY came! So we resume our regular weekly blitz every Saturday. Unfortunately, the management at the Seanachai Pub has seen fit to allocate the space we have been using to some other function so we are relocating a few doors to the West to Mom's Cafe on the corner. This small family business is run by a Chinese couple keen on various games. Most days there is a Euchre game in the window and occasionally a game of Tsieng chi (chinese chess). We will have games set up in the windows at street level with lots of good natural lighting. The entry fee will include coffee and a donut for all players!

    Results from Saturday, June 6th:
6 player triple RR (5 min. blitz chess)

    1st: Leonid Gerzhoy 13 1/2 - 1 1/2
    2nd: Victor Plotkin 11 - 4

    A Prize: Nikola Brajkovic 9 - 6

If Toronto / Canada had as many chess players as it has verbal enthusiasts, this might just be the best city / country in the world to play chess at. I've been enjoying blitz chess since 2003 at the Bayview Games Club, and find it a shame that so few people seem keen on keeping up. Definitely tough to play every week, Saturday blitz is always an event to look forward to whenever possible. Internet chess is just not in the same league. Even though in small numbers, this has got to be one of the (if not 'the') strongest blitz tournaments that takes on a regular basis in Canada. It's even worth watching while having a soda for those who may be shy to try out their luck with the IMs at first.

Glad to hear the blitz will stay in the area. Danforth is booming with life on the weekends, and good weather made my half hour walk home a treat.

    See you Saturday !

Good luck Vlad - you are providing a good format - maybe a full crosstable would show that U 2000 players come out and play - we only see the one name of the winner for the B prize - hang in there !

        Thanks Bob,

I would post X-tables if I had the formats. I noticed Hal Bond uses an atractive one and I emailed him for info a couple years ago when he was CFC Pres but got no reply.
If anyone knows a source for the swiss and rr tables let me know.
        Thanks,
        Vlad

Try http://www.vegachess.com/download.htm "The current version can be freely used for any chess tournament with not more than 30 players."

From the help file: "Sorted Cross Table produces a cross table in which the ID of each player is regenerated and sorted by rank. In the case of the round-robin system, it is saved in the file crosrr.txt"

You would need to copy+paste the content of the file crosrr.txt here between CODE (# icon) tag and using a monospace font (aka fixed-width like Lucida Console).

Another way: start Notepad, change a font to Lucida Console, enter results and paste them here :)

Our blitz tournament can be played outdoors, as there are tables on both sides of the windows. I see both Ottawa and Montreal have scheduled outdoor events - so why not here?:)
