In a post-game interview, MVL was dissatisfied with his play, even though he won against Nakamura. He intimated that he hopes to do much better in the Blitz tournament.

The screen keeps freezing and the sound goes off. One guy in the chat room said that he had three streams going and his wife walked in the room and asked just what he was doing. Another kibitzer says that is why he locks the door when he is watching the games.

I have chess24’s broadcast of the game on my big screen computer and look at analyses and statistics on my other computer sitting right next to it.
I have to keep reloading the big computer and it takes all my time to just follow the feature games.

World Rapid and Blitz Championships Doha 2016

                December 29, 2016

                World Blitz

                Rounds 7 to 9

Two opposite types of sportsmanship in Round Seven.

Anand was playing Jobava and when he punched his clock, it kept going and he didn’t notice. After about 20 seconds Jobava did notice and punched Anand’s clock for him and then they agreed to a draw and called over the arbiter and said that the clock was faulty.

In the Women’s Blitz, Anna Ushenina was playing Sofio Gvetadze and had connected pawn and knight vs a single knight and the game was drawn. Ushenina was so upset that she didn’t shake Gvetadze’s hand afterwards. It was caught on the television transmission and commented on.

The top of the table is filled with familiar names. The exceptions are Dubov in 3rd and Bosiocic in 5th.

Marin Bosiocic (b. 1988) is a Croatian grandmaster.

Daniil Dubov (b. 1996) is a Russian grandmaster. He became a grandmaster at 14 years, 11 months.

Karjakin and Carlsen are tied for the lead. Karjakin sounded very confident in his postgame interviews and no less did Carlsen. It will be a fight to the end.

Alexander Morozevich’s appearance in a major tournament is a welcome surprise. Magnus said that he is one of the strongest players ever and welcomed his presence in Doha.

Peter Doggers interviews the surprise of the blitz tournament so far – Marin Bosiocic. He won his first two games today. He said in the second one vs Leko, he was worse so was lucky to win. He is not a blitz specialist, likes classical better. He is a young man with his head shaved bald.

Nakamura is happy to have drawn with Magnus and beating Karjakin who blundered at the end of their game.
Ivanchuk has fought his way up and is playing Carlsen in Round 16.

Miro is wearing a faux bowtie. He says he knows three ways to knot a tie out of the twenty possible ones! He would learn the other ways but he does have to spend some time on chess.

                      Later: Ivanchuk beats Carlsen!

Flores claimed a draw according to the fifty-move rule but it was 47 moves not fifty and so it was disallowed. The players made three more moves and Flores claimed again but it was somehow disallowed and then Flores got mated before claiming again and he walked away mad.
